The Pontotoc Red Sox finally got their second game of the American Legion Mid-South Regionals in on Saturday.

Coach Nickey Browning’s Mississippi Champions defeated the tourney host, Texarkana (Tx), 18-3 in seven innings. The game was scheduled for Friday night, but was rained out.

On Sunday, the Sox scored eight runs on 12 hits in Game 12 to tally an 8-2 win over League City (Texas State Champions).

Kaleb Kennedy (Pontotoc) picked up the Saturday win on the mound giving up only two earned runs on six hits, while striking out five in a full-game effort.

The Red Sox pounded out 19 hits, with seven players getting multiple hits.

Right fielder Jeremy Ferguson (North Pontotoc) led the way at the plate with four hits and five RBI. followed by short stop Phillip Tice (New Hope) and left fielder Lee Wilson (Wheeler) both with three hits and two RBI.

Second baseman Zach Chavers (Pontotoc), designated hitter David Bowen (South Pontotoc), catcher Will Wallis (Ripley) and center fielder Jon Michael Hannon (Pontotoc) each contributed to the slugfest with two hits each, including homeruns by Tice, Chavers and Bowen.

Crossing the plate for Pontotoc were Tice (4), Hannon (3), Bowen (3), Ferguson (2), Wallis (2), Chavers, Wilson, first baseman Jake Smithey (Pontotoc) and third baseman Jay King (Bruce).

Pontotoc, at this point, is undefeated in tournament play (3-0), while League City suffered it’s first loss (2-1).

Blake O’Callaghan (Pontotoc) picked up the mound win Sunday going the distance in this seven-inning game, while striking out five.

Jeremy Ferguson (North Pontotoc) and Phillip Tice (New Hope) led the way for the Red Sox at the plate. Ferguson went 4-for-4 with two RBI, and Tice went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Lee Wilson (Wheeler) went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Wilson and Ferguson hit two doubles each in the win, while Tice tripled.

The next game for Pontotoc will be against the Midwest City Outlaws (Oklahoma State Champions) in the semi-finals.
