Are you ready for some Bodocking? What? Already?

Well, this year the festival has been moved up a full three weeks. It will be held the first weekend in August rather than the third week- end.

Dates for the event are August 6 and 7 which is the first Friday that all schools will be back in operation.

Organizers are pulling out all stops to honor Pontotoc County’s own Jimmy Weatherly who will be coming home for the weekend to celebrate Bodock along with his hometown fans.

The festival will include all the things you look forward to on the weekend from local entertainment all day Saturday to historical events to a bicycle ride and 5K run.

Other events will be announced as plans come together for the festival.

So get your calendar down right now and mark it for the earlier date.

The Progress will print a very different style all color booklet covering all the aspects of the festival which will be inserted into the paper on August 4.

Let me say that I enjoy the Bodock festival, I really do. It shows the diversity of our town and for our town to grow, we need that. I have to say though, I am very disappointed that it is being moved forward. That will only hurt the festival, in my opinion. The weather is so hot now, that not many people are going to come walk, stand and fry on our pavements. The older generation doesn't need to be in that type of weather and our children don't need to be either. It will only make them cranky and ill- mannered so most parents will take them home, sooner rather than later, just to get them out of the public's eye.
