The North Pontotoc archery team hosted West Union and Tupelo on Tuesday of last week and came away with another impressive win.

North had a final tally of 3,067 followed by defending state champion West Union with 2,811 and Tupelo with 2,767.

“I decided after four meets to beef up the competition and invite a couple of schools to our place,” said North Pontotoc head coach Joe Waller.

“Instead of having 10 shooters firing in each round we had 21, and it really was exciting.”

The overall high scores were Austin Merritt 273, Amber Hall 270, Blake Sullivan 270, Patrick Haulcomb 265, Easton Smith 261, Drew Burcham 258, Chase Owen 253, Josh Tutor 250, Joe Hood 246, Brook Forrester 246, Hunter Coleman 239, Stephen Grose 236, and Brittany Hardy 236.

“The team was minus a few of our big shooters due to other athletic events, but the rest of the team’s young guns stepped up,” Waller explained.

“Easton, Patrick and Josh have really shot well every meet and have consistently been in our top 12 each time they have competed.

“We have to keep preparing with the North State Championship Meet looming in two weeks,” he added. “Our archers are really excited about the possibility of competing for the north half title.”

The North State Championship Meet will be hosted by Lewisburg High School on April 24.
