In a continuing effort to complete a history of Smithville High School football, Tony Summerford is searching for old game films in hopes of filling holes created by missing information discovered during local newspaper searches.

Summerford is still missing information about two touchdowns played in 47 Smithville football seasons.

“These touchdowns were scored in a 1966 game with Saltillo,” Summerford explain-ed. “No one has been given credit for five extra points, five 2-point conversions and three safeties, also.”

Game films needed to find this information are the ’66 game with Saltillo,’63,’65 and’75 games with Mooreville,’64,’71 and’81 games with Mantachie,’63 and’65 games with Algoma,’65 and’66 games with Randolph, the’68 game with Ecru, the’72 game with North Pontotoc and the second game with Hatley in’63.

“I am only seeking information on who and how Smithville scored all its points,” Summerford added, while noting that scoring summaries or stat sheets would also be helpful, “I am just asking to view the films.”

Anyone having the films from these games are asked to contact Summerford at 662-651-4153 or 662-315-8733.
