Jewel Reno Wallace, 89, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Graceland Care Center in New Albany. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Services were Thursday, Feb. 11, at the United Funeral Service Chapel in New Albany with Bro. Jeff Lawrence and Bro. Tim Green officiating. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery at Etta.
Survivors include his wife, Winnie Myers Wallace of Etta; two sons, Harold Jumper (Dona) of Pontotoc and Donny Jumper of New Albany.

Edith Calomese Tyson died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. She was born Nov. 9, 1943, in Baldwyn to Robert and Zana Calomese. She was a member of Mt. Hope M.B. Church, where she was a deaconess, president of the mission, and a member of the Mother’s Board and the Program Committee. She was a member of the Heroines of Jericho No. 95 and an employee of the deli at Walmart in Oxford. She loved flowers, shopping and hats.
Services were Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Tallahatchie Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building in Oxford. The Rev. James L. Hull officiated. Burial was in Yocona Cemetery in Taylor. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Billy Tyson of Taylor; four stepchildren, Tyrone Garrett and Reginald Tyson, both of Taylor, and Timothy Tyson and Stephanie, both of Jackson; three sisters, Mary Burress of Oxford, and Annie Fleming and Martha Calomese, both of Baldwyn; two brothers, William Louise Taylor of Baldwyn and T. Charles Calomese of St. Louis, Mo.

Tilda Pulliam Hill, 103, died Saturday, February 6, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a member of Clark Chapel M.B. Church. She loved flowers, cooking, canning and going to church.
Services were Saturday, Feb. 13, at Lighthouse of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Bruce. Elder Joe Lee Jones officiated. Burial was in East County Line Cemetery in Houlka. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruthie Faye Jones of Houlka and Hattie Miller of Bruce; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great grandchildren.

Thomas William Fagan, 69, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, in Lafayette Springs. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a carpenter, electrician and millwright.
A memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 12, at Bluff Springs Baptist Church at Denmark in Lafayette County. Bro. Adam Vinson and Bro. Jed Daniels officiated. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his brother, Lynn Erickson; a son, Jeff Fagan; a daughter, Debbie Fagan; two stepsons, Mark Daniels and Jef Daniels; grandchildren, A.J. Daniels, Tyler Daniels, Connor Daniels, Bailey Daniels and Keigan Daniels.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Fagan; his mother, Ila Erickson; and a brother, Irv Fagan.

Gara Pearl Corder Edwards, 95, of Traceway Manor, formerly of Pontotoc, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 18, 1914, in Pontotoc County to George Williams Corder and Lena Pearl Flaherty Corder. She married James Rudolph Edwards on Nov. 25, 1932; he died in 1976. She worked as a sales associate with Page’s 5&10 for many years before working with her husband in their business, Sun Oil Company. She loved Pontotoc and West Heights Baptist Church, where she was a member for many years.
Services were Friday, Feb. 12, at West Heights Baptist Church with Dr. David Hamilton and Bro. Gerald Buckley officiating. Burial followed in West Heights Cemetery. Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Martha Edwards Classon of Louisville, Ky., and Janie Edwards Waldrip (Gary) of Tupelo; one brother, Max Corder (Debbie) of Bigfork, Mont.; grandchildren, James Kevin Farmer (Carol) and Felecia Hester (Joe), all of Louisville, Ky., and Suzy Waldrip Simpson (Alex) of Brentwood, Tenn.; four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her stepmother, Alma Corder; one grandchild, Wendi Gail Waldrip; three brothers, Herman Corder, Bud Corder and Kellie Corder; and a son-in-law, Ron Classon.

Nora Jamison Walker, 103, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Sunshine Healthcare in Pontotoc. She was born May 25, 1906, in Pontotoc County to Robert Lee Jamison and Manie Camp Jamison. She was married to Alvis Walker for 55 years until his death. She was an avid gardener of vegetables and flowers. She was a seamstress and wonderful cook. She was a member of Troy First Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Herndon and Bro. Fred Hartley officiating. Burial will follow in Troy Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Lexie Warren and Mary Prater of Troy; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; two sons, Melvin Devan Walker and James Alvis Walker; an infant child; daughter-in-law, Jeanine Walker; grandson, Bobby Walker; and granddaughter, Patti Kent.

Keith D. Coates, 72, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at his home in Madison, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Dorothy Coats, and by one granddaughter Kali Burgess.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jamie Coleman Coates; their four children and spouses, Lane and Bonnie Coates of Madison, Sandy and Barry McClure of Monrovia, Lisa and Jeff Burgess of Harvest, and Elisabeth and Brent Smith of Meridianville. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Andrew Coates, Amanda Coates, Austin Smith, Danielle McClure, Morgan Burgess, Amberly Smith, Lindsey McClure, Stefanie McClure, and Jenna Burgess; one brother and his wife Bobby and LoNella Coates of Harvest, one sister and her husband Kelcy and Jerry Whitten of Pontotoc, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Coates was born in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, and graduated from Toccopola High School in 1954. After marrying the love of his life, he proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Mississippi. In 1993, he retired from NASA after 32 years of exemplary service. He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, an avid gardener, and enjoyed spending time with his family, church, neighbors, and many good friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Madison Church of Christ, Madison, Ala. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m.

Elbert David Beard, 75, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Itawamba County on Aug. 2, 1934, to Elbert and Irene Beard. He was retired from the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He was a retired restaurant owner and a member of the Troy First Baptist Church, where he served as an usher. He was an avid hunter and gardener, and loved spending time with his grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Greg Herndon officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Beard of Troy; two sons, David Lee Beard of Tupelo and John Elbert Beard of Greenwood; one daughter, Nancy Beard of Tupelo; two sisters, Katherine Reese (Joe) of Eggville and Helen Dale of Tupelo; one grandson, Lee Stewart Beard of Tupelo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Virginia Dale Tutor died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Pontotoc. She was born Feb. 17, 1929, to Jesse Abb Mask and Virginia Earlene Bramlitt Mask. She married Lowell Tutor at a young age. She was a beautician for over 40 years. She was a loving and giving person who loved people and loved to help people. She made a trip to the HUD subdivision in Pontotoc each Friday to pick up ladies who did not have transportation and took them to her beauty shop at no charge. She most loved watching her sons play football and basketball. She fed a houseful of kids almost every day and had several live in her home at different times.
Services were Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. The Rev. J.W. Owen officiated. Burial was be in the Ecru Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Jackie (Joel) Moorman; one son, Roger Tutor; five grandchildren, Deana Ferguson, Angie (Dan) Treadaway, Jesse (Jason) Hall, Kaylee (Mike) Ridling and Jessie Tutor; one sister, Margie (Oliver) Graham; one sister-in-law, Beverly Mask.

Lottie Sue Sullivan, 48, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at her home after a long illness.

Troy Jackson

James Troy Jackson, 20, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, in Montgomery, after a sudden illness. He was born Oct. 4, 1989, in Jackson, Miss. and later moved with his family to Montgomery. He and his family spent six and a half years in Kijabe, Kenya, working as medical missionaries with Africa Inland Mission. There, he attended Rift Valley Academy until the family returned to Montgomery in 2004.
He was a 2008, graduate of Trinity Presbyterian School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, the French Club, Theatrical Sound and Lighting and Science Olympiad. He attended Mississippi State University and was a student at Auburn University in Montgomery. He was an active member of Youth Fellowship and Choir at Trinity Presbyterian Church. He had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was loved by people of all ages.
To his many friends and family, he was larger than life, a free spirit filled with joyful enthusiasm and playfulness, a kind and loving heart and an unmatched exuberance for whatever lay ahead.
Services were Friday, Feb. 12, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Montgomery. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Southern Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery was in charge of arrangements

Thomas David Hall, 57, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, in Houston. He was born Feb. 17, 1952. He was a 1971 graduate of Houlka High School. He worked in the furniture industry until becoming disabled.

Milton Albert Gryder, 88, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Ripley. He was born Aug. 30, 1921, to the late Edger Gryder and Betty Elizabeth Tabb Gryder in Jackson Parish, La. He lived most of his life in California, moving to Mississippi in the 1980s. He was a retired employee of Southern Railroad Co.
Services were Sunday, Feb. 14, at Mortimer Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Pete Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Guinn Cemetery in the Springville community.
Survivors include his wife, Fannie Roach Gryder; three sons, Albert Gryder of California, Edger Gryder of Ripley and Phelix Gryder of Randolph; one daughter, Helen Harvel of California; three brothers, Marise Gryder of California, Luther Gryder of Missouri and Charles Gryder of Ervin, Tenn.; two sisters, Lylian Howard of Louisiana and Jeanie Mae Camardo of California; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.
