Within the next two months, residents in Pontotoc County will have their own Web site to turn to for public safety announcements and news.

Through a $1,500 grant, Pontotoc County Emergency Mangement Director Rickey Jaggers said he plans on building a Web site that will be a one stop stop clearing house of information concerning safety.

Supervisors approved Jaggers to use the 100 percent grant monies that became available to build the site.

"My plans are to have a home page that will have community bulletin board announcements on it concerning public health and safety,"Jaggers explained.

In addition, residents can access the fire coordinator, Terry Jaggers, and E911 coordinator Johnny Baggett.

The beauty of the site is it will allow Jaggers to receive e-mail directly from the site on his phone.

"I'm not in the office all the time and I'm not able to check my e-mails but every four hours this way I can keep a handle on what is going on."

Jaggers said the site will be user friendly, allowing residents to go on and report storm damage to him so he will know al the places to go in the community in the event of a severe weather outbreak.

He is execited about having the capability of almost instant commmunication with those in the community who need help and can access a computer.

"Hopefully, we can have it up and running within six weeks."

There is a site that is already set up and has been since 2005 it is www.pontotocshelters.yolasite.com it has all the storm shelters, warnings & a NOAA weather radar.

I have used it so many times to see the weather when I am on the road and it is more accurate than any weathet station in Ms.
