Rosanna Moody

New Albany

Rosanna Lynn Hill Moody, 42, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at her residence. She was born June 10, 1966, in Aurora, Ill., to Thomas Herman Hill Sr. and Bena Faye Kidd. She was an employee of Albany Industries where she worked as a supplier. She was a member of the Lady Auxiliary Club at the VFW in Pontotoc where she served as the Junior Vice President. She attended the Church of God in Tupelo and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Services were Tuesday, March 17, at the United Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Jack Ezell officiating. Burial was in the Friendship Cemetery. United Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Gene Moody of New Albany; her mother, Bena Faye Hill Wood of New Albany; two daughters, Heather Nicole Moody (Corey) and Pamela Jean Moody, both of New Albany; one son, Donald Shane Moody (Kayla) of Sherman; four sisters, Donna Bryant (Terry) of New Albany, Linda Bryant (Pete) of Ripley, Cathy Brown (Hollis) of New Albany; Letha Brandon of Pontotoc; two brothers, Thomas Hill Jr. (Glenda) of Ecru and Chris Hill (Teresa) of Ripley; and three grandchildren, Collen Coker, Hailey Coker and McKinzie Moody.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Herman Hill, Sr.; and her grandparents, Ben and Liza Kidd, Erma Kidd and Ann and Ben Hill.

Pallbearers were Corey Coker, Jason Hill, Terry Bryant Jr., Brandon Bryant, Terry Bryant Sr., Danny Moody, Chris Hill and Thomas Herman Hill Jr.

Homer Parrish served as honorary pallbearer.

Betty Collum

Eupora

Betty Davis Collum, 56, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora. She was a teacher in the Webster County School System for 35 years and was most recently a fifth grade teacher at Eupora Elementary School. She served on the National Writing Project Leadership Team as a tech-liaison and as the Mississippi State University tech-liaison. She had been recognized in the annual report of the National Writing Project as one of the nation's best teachers. She received the Pat Mitchell Award for Excellence from the National Writing Project in 2009. She was recognized in articles of a national peer-review journal, "The Reading Teacher." In 2004 she received her National Board Certified Teacher status and in 2005 was awarded "Teacher of the Year" at Eupora Elementary School. She was a member of the Eupora First Baptist Church.

Services were Sunday, March 15, at the Eupora First Baptist Church with the Rev. Travis Gray officiating. Burial was in the West Shady Grove Cemetery in Webster County. Oliver Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, James M. Shorty Collum of Eupora; two sons, Robert (Jill) Collum of New Albany and Murray (Leslie) Collum of Pontotoc; her father, Joe Bob (Romie) Davis of Eupora; a sister, Sherry Davis (Leroy) Parker of Starkville; and a granddaughter, Addison Collum.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Davis.

Alice Bishop

Toccopola

Mattie Alice Bishop, 91, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Pontotoc. She was born Aug. 8, 1917, in Bald Knob, Ark., to Thomas Brinkley and Carrie Ethel Jackson Scarborough. She was retired from Hunter Fan Co. in Memphis. She was a loving mother and a devoted Christian attendee of Toccopola Baptist Church. After her retirement she spent her time doing what she loved most, rocking on her front porch and tending to her flowers.

Services were Saturday, March 14, at Toccopola Baptist Church with Bro. Earl Rush officiating. Burial was in Toccopola Cemetery. Mortimer Funeral Home of Pontotoc was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one son, Lewis Bounds of Toccopola; one daughter, Barbara Joan Callahan of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Jerry Scarborough of Tennessee; grandchildren, James Hughley (D'Ann) of Olive Branch, Mary Anne Brock (Roy) of Randolph, Yolanda Wood (Grant) of Houston, Texas, and Kathy Callahan, Michael Callahan (Christie) and Christopher Callahan (Fallon), all of Jacksonville, Fla.; 21 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Bishop; a daughter, Mary Josephine Hughley; a great-granddaughter, Samantha Haley Callahan; and her parents.

Pallbearers were James Hughley, Michael Callahan, Christopher Callahan, Roy Brock, Chuckie Spradling and Wesley Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were Justin Smith and Hunter Highfield.

Eula Mae Farrar

Tupelo

Eula Mae Elizabeth Gaines Farrar, 88, died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at her home. She was born Sept. 7, 1920, in Pontotoc County to Ruben and Mary Caldwell Gaines. For more than 50 years, she was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church, where she worked in the nursery and cafeteria for many years. A people person, she loved everybody, especially children. She enjoyed her garden and flowers.

Services were Wednesday, March 11, at Harrisburg Baptist Church with the Rev. David Smith and Dr. David Langerfeld officiating. Burial was in Bethel United Methodist Cemetery at Endville. United Funeral Service of New Albany was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include three sons, Wayne Farrar (Melba) of Brewer, James Farrar (Joann) of Tupelo and Keith Farrar (Theresa) of Pleasant Ridge; one sister, Nora Lee McBrayer of Sherman; one brother, Charles Gaines of Tupelo; seven grandchildren, Scott Farrar, Christy Mason, Shane Farrar, Jennifer Farrar, Dennis Edwards, Holly Blankenship and Stephanie Loberg; 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Douglas Farrar; her parents; one daughter, Dorothy Ruth Farrar; six brothers, Raymond Gaines, Floyce Gaines, Byron Gaines, Lester Gaines, Samuel Gaines and Robert Gaines.

Nephews and grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.

Luther Bailey Jr.

Blue Springs

Luther “Bubba” Bailey Jr., 76, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at his home. He was a retired U.S. Customs port director at the Memphis Port Authority. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed tropical fish, boating and fishing.

Services were Saturday, March 14, at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Martin Jacks, Bro. Felix Hutcheson and Bro. Wayne Frederick officiating. Burial was in Camp Creek Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Martha Ellen White Bailey of the Camp Creek community; one sister, Elaine Neustadter of Tampa, Fla.; one nephew, Dan Neustadter of Tampa; two nieces, Maureen Sheridan of Tampa and Kathleen Halter of Tallahassee; his in-laws, James T. White of Aberdeen, George White (Elaine) and Charles White (Betty) of Camp Creek; nephews-in-law, Calvin White (Joyce), Steve White (Darla) and Todd White (Amy); many great-nieces and great-nephews; a special friend, Iris Horn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Evelyn Wear Bailey.

Pallbearers were Todd White, Calvin White, Steve White, Kyle White, Blake White, Drew White, Dan Neustadter, and Cary Ward.

Randy Chunn Sr.

Pontotoc

James Randall “Randy” Chunn Sr., 50, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in Pontotoc. A lifelong resident of the Gersham community, he attended Gersham Baptist Church.

Services were Saturday, March 14, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Donnie Finley officiating. Burial was in Holiday Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Faye Smith Chunn; three brothers, Ricky Bannister, Billy Chunn and Donald Chunn (Lorie); three sisters, Carolyn Arconex, Evelyn Ferguson and Kay Sansing; one son, Jamie Chunn (Jessie); and one grandson, Dalton Chunn.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Floyd Chunn; his grandmother, Kate Chunn; and his grandfather, Earl Chunn.

Pallbearers were Steve Tutor, Glenn Davis, Mike Paden, Tommy McKnight, Jeremy Williams and Danny Chapman.

Ann Pearl Coppinger

Pontotoc

Ann Pearl Reece Coppinger, 75, of Pontotoc, Miss. passed peacefully on March 11, 2009 at Pontotoc Hospital. Born in Pontotoc, “Pearl” worked for Oxford Healthcare as a home health aide and was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Coppinger; four sisters, Clara, Georgia, Nancy, Thelma; five brothers, Walter, Russell, Aubrey, James and John.

She is survived by one daughter, Catherine Critelli of N.J.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas (Kathy) Critelli of N.Y. and Stephen (Linda) Critelli of N.J.; four grandchildren, Jessica, Megan, Sean and Stephen Jr.; one brother, Jimmy Reece of Memphis, Tenn., and many friends and relatives.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with a service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28 at Baldwin Funeral Home, 96 South Main Street, Pontotoc. Interment will follow at Pontotoc Memorial Gardens.

Bennie Evans

Pontotoc

Bennie Rhudolph "Rudy" Evans, 83, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany after an extended illness. A Waynesboro native, he was born Sept. 22, 1925, to Ben and Mattie Evans. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was retired and the former owner of a roofing construction company. He was a member First Christian Church in Orange, Texas, and Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church in Pontotoc. He loved to read his Bible.

Memorial services were held Saturday, March 14, at Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Moody officiating. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Gloria Evans, of Pontotoc; three children, Peggy June Lindley (Ronnie) of Verona, Linda Marie Horton (Ronnie) of Belden and Danya Leigh Evans of Orange, Texas; three stepdaughters, Trish Morchowder (Michael) of Rockaway, N.J., Nancy Colter (Mark) of Lafayette, N.J., and Cheryl deJong (Joe) of Sealy, Texas; two brother-in-laws, Edgar Smith Sr. of Pontotoc and Bill Deskin of Memphis; one sister-in-law, Peggy Deskin of Memphis; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Clyde Henderson.

Ottie Criddle

Houston

Ottie Mae Kilgo Criddle, 96, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston. She was born Feb. 7, 1913, in Chickasaw County to David Smith Kilgo and Sally Free Kilgo. She worked as a seamstress for Futorian in Okolona. After retirement, she enjoyed making quilts. She attended the Church of God.

Services were Saturday, March 14, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Houston with the Rev. Randy Rinehart and Bro. Jonathan Childress officiating. Burial was in the Macedonia Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Loudene Vance (Jimmy) of Houston, Shirley Eastman of Shannon and Joy Johnson of Pontotoc; two granddaughters, Alanna Clark of Shannon and Lacey Johnson of Pontotoc; three grandsons, David Clifton Vance of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Jason and Robby Johnson of Pontotoc; seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Clifton Criddle; a son, Paul Wayne Criddle; six sisters, Lottie Earnest, Estelle Sullivan, Irene Hill, Etoile Doss, Elizabeth Criddle and Lorene Criddle; and three brothers, William Kilgo, Garney Kilgo and Harce Kilgo.

Joan Maloy

Pontotoc

Joan Diane Maloy, 55, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was a resident of the Furrs community. She was a convenience store manager and a Baptist.

Services were Friday, March 13, at Waters Funeral Home in Baldwyn. Bro. Ronald Mark Harris officiated. Burial was in Center Star Cemetery.

Survivors include her father, Bob Stanfield of Groveland, Fla.; one daughter, Laura Childers of Pontotoc; one son, Billy Parker Jr. of Pontotoc; one brother, Ronald Stanfield of Winter Haven, Fla.; three grandchildren, Katie Lynne Parker, Brian Lee Parker and Georgia Parker.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Gibson; two sons, William Parker and Jonathan Parker; a sister, Julie Stanfield; and a brother, Bobby Stanfield.

James Hindman

Hamilton

James Eldridge Hindman, 79, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus after an extended illness. He was born in Chickasaw County on March 10, 1930, to the late Eli Franklin Hindman and Donie Morris Hindman. He was a retired self employed carpenter and had lived in Okolona many years before moving to Hamilton five years ago. He was a member of the Prarie Baptist Church and a master mason affiliated with the Caledonia Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed antiques, flea markets, fishing and was a master gardener known especially for the turnip greens and tomatoes he furnished to his family and many friends.

Services were Sunday, March 15, at the Okolona Chapel of Holland-Harris Funeral Directors with Bro. George Collins officiating. Burial followed in the Boone’s Chapel Cemetery. Holland-Harris, Okolona Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Watson Hindman of Hamilton; his daughter, Sheron H. Conner (William) of Pontotoc; his son, Randle Hindman (Diane) of Marion, Ala.; his grandchildren, Ronnie and Patricia Hindman, Heather and Donald Murray, Racheal and Brian Wilson, Kyle Hindman and Billy and Lexis Conner; his great-grandchildren, Taylor Hindman, Tyler Free, Annabella Hindman, Gavin Wilson, Kiera Conner and B.J. Conner; two sistes, Minnie Rae Scribner and Ola Mae Vaughan, both of Hamilton; his step daughters, Cheryl Stone, Cynde Turnage (Bud) and Cathy Ward (Gordon); and his step grandchildren, Dana Nix, David Stone, Matthew Ward, Kelly Turnage, Scott Turnage and Jason Turnage; and several nieces, nephews cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ricky Hindman; and two brothers, Luther and Leroy Hindman.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Hindman, David Stone, William Conner, Gordon Ward, Kyle Hindman and Billy Carnathan.
