The process is scheduled to take a few weeks, into February.
Area residents are encouraged to come catch fish to help expedite the draining process.
All fees inside the park and to the lake have been lifted, but all Mississippi state fishing laws will be enforced, including possession of a current state fishing license.
The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
